New website www.responsiblemarkets.org is building a new online community around responsible timber markets.
The website, which harnesses the power of social media, has been developed by the Rainforest Alliance in collaboration with the Nature Conservancy, the European Forest Institute, WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network and The Forest Trust.
The sponsoring organisations identified a need for a centralised resource related to the sustainable sourcing and sales of timber and wood products. They saw an opportunity to extend their mission and goals by creating an online community that can share information and resources beyond the limitations of conferences.
PEFC International has welcomed the website, saying that anything that encourages the uptake of chain of custody throughout the timber value chain assists in building market demand for certified material.
