Some 33 companies are listed as best overall financial performers in Plimsoll Publishing Ltd’s report, with James Latham plc coming top.
Plimsoll senior analyst David Pattison said the top 33 were reporting twice the sales growth and profits of the rest of the trade.
“The rest of the industry should be falling over themselves to do business with these companies,” he said.
The report also breaks down the 21 companies with the best sales improvement and the top 21 firms for profit growth. Nine companies are named as delivering the greatest turnaround in financial performance.
Plimsoll’s study contains an individual profile of each of the UK’s top 988 timber merchants and importers.
