Scotland’s largest independent timber merchant is hoping to celebrate its 25th anniversary by recording turnover in excess of £33m.

Rembrand Timber Ltd, which was started in 1982 by George Low and Ronald Brand and had a turnover of £1.1m in its first year, claims that it has grown from a three-man operation based in rented accommodation into 14-site business employing 150 people by investing in products and services, with the company now dealing with machining, timber grading, timber treatment and doorset manufacture.

In addition, Jeff Low, a director at Rembrand Timber, added that employ-ing the right staff, “from the manager down to the delivery driver”, had been a key part of the company’s success.

Rembrand Timber, which has recently been allotted sole distributor rights for Jeld-Wen’s range of doors in Scotland, is continuing to invest in its operations, with thousands of pounds being spent on the company’s website, www.rembrandtimber.com, and new showrooms and trade counters installed at its branches across Scotland to deal with the rise in retail customers.
