Sourcing and transport of materials and energy use, as well as recycling, have all played a part in the company minimising its environmental impact, with 350,000 tonnes of waste wood recycled each year, including 95% of its own processing waste, and lorry deliveries to the site cut by 30% over the plast two years.

This has been coupled with a reduction in energy consumption at the Chirk plant, which Kronospan claims has been cut by a quarter since 2001 via the use of a biomass boiler and turbines to produce additional heat and power.
