A record 179 people attended the London Softwood Club’s annual Christmas lunch at the Charing Cross Hotel in London last week.

Extra space was created to allow more people to attend the popular event, which this year featured Paul Boardman as the guest speaker and entertainer. Mr Boardman, son of stand-up comic Stan Boardman, was a former professional football player for Plymouth Argyle and is a presenter on Sky Sports News.

The club donated £4,500 to a variety of charities, including Demelza House Children’s Hospice in New Eltham; Marie Curie; St Christopher’s Hospice; Pembury Hospital intensive care unit; Neighbours in Poplar; The Dellow Centre in east London; Cancer Research; and the Timber Trades’ Benelovent Society.
