SCA Timber Supply has reported 61 trainees signing up for its customer training courses – the highest demand for places for several years.

The trainees have signed up for five separate courses which comprise a mixed group of builders’ merchants and SCA staff at the company’s Stoke-on-Trent headquarters and four dedicated courses for staff at Buildbase, EH Smith Builders Merchants, Harlow Brothers and LBS Builders Merchants.

SCA says its customers have bought into the concept of up-skiling staff during a recession and says they will improve their bottom lines as a consequence.

Successful graduates from the courses will visit Sweden in March/April next year and will visit SCA’s FSC-certified forests and sawmills. They will be accompanied by the winners of the SCA-sponsored TTJ Career Development Award.
