Rationel Vinduer has become the first company to achieve Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation for sliding doors.

The security test was devised by Chiltern Dynamics and is in line with PAS 23 and PAS 24 standards. It also references elements of BS 7950 for sliding windows and BS 6375 Part 2 for the operational testing of windows to enable sliding doors to be SBD-approved.

Rationel said that having its sliding doors SBD-approved had allowed it to ensure its entire product offering was security tested and satisfy the “high demand for sliding doors”.

Chiltern Dynamics added that it hoped the test would become a pathway for achieving a UK-wide standard for sliding doors.

“We were able to draw from our extensive experience of testing windows and doors to devise a firm but fair test methodology which is rigorous enough to satisfy SBD and, we believe in time the UK Accreditation Service, as a lead in to the standards themselves,” said Vincent Kerrigan, deputy technical manager at Chiltern Dynamics.
