Swedish sawmiller Rörvik recorded a loss after tax of SKr145m in the first half of 2009.

The result compares to a SKr52m loss a year ago. Sales of SKr739m were down from SKr1.3bn a year earlier.

Rörvik said the market for sawn timber had gradually improved during the last quarter, with competitiveness improved against Finland and Germany thanks to weakening in the krona.

Demand for pressure-treated products was described as “good”.

Rörvik, which completed drastic reductions to its production in the spring (a decrease of 40%), has been granted a time extension to allow debt restructuring.
