The effectiveness of Jakarta’s urban tree planting campaign has been called into question.
Planning expert Yayat Supriyatna told the Jakarta Post that species chosen for the 10 million tree planting scheme are unlikely to withstand storms. About 200 trees were blown down in recent bad weather. However, the scheme organisers point out that 4.6 million trees have already been planted in the city.
