The rising popularity of the police initiative Secured By Design (SBD) has helped create strong demand for BM TRADA Certification‘s Q-Mark scheme for doors and windows.
Simon Beer, BM TRADA‘s Q-Mark certification manager, said: “Since April 2005, SBD has required windows and doors to be certified and now that the SBD initiative is gaining some momentum and is being implemented and enforced rigorously we see many more customers demanding Q-Mark certification.”
Mr Beer said Q-Mark certification was now commonplace for ground floor windows and entrance doors in SBD developments.
The SBD award is given when a development achieves a minimum level of physical security and when the layout reduces the opportunity for crime.
The Q-Mark is designed to show specifiers that products have been tested by an independent body and are manufactured to consistent, high standards.
