US-based Prudential Timber Investments Inc (PruTimber) is to embark on a programme of pine plantation investments in the southern hemisphere.

Its first international acquisition will be the purchase of 26,328 acres of planted pine in Parana, Brazil on behalf of an investor. The move is part of the company’s international timber strategy designed to take advantage of new trends in the global forest products industry.

John Lord, managing director of PruTimber said potential returns from Brazilian timber investments are among the most attractive in the world. He added: “In addition to this recent acquisition we continue to evaluate other opportunities in southern Brazil, where the forestry sector is growing rapidly.”
