The Wigan business decided to partner with Leadermac on its latest technology investment in order to replace an existing Wadkin 220 moulder.

“Going with Leadermac was a big decision for Prowood,” said Prowood managing director Peter Burns. “Since 1998 we have always run new and rebuilt Wadkin moulders. We looked at all the other heavy-duty, high- speed moulders on the market and for a variety of reasons settled with Leadermac.”

The LMV 631SP Speedmac is designed for high-capacity operations for large and small batch production runs. It was supplied to Prowood’s technical requirements, including an increased working width capacity – 310mm wide by 150mm high and infinitely variable feed speeds of 6-60m/min.

Other options included upgraded motor power, spindles with variable speeds up to 9000rpm controlled by electronic inverters and a heavy-duty four-roller infeed system.

Mr Burns reported that the Speedmac was installed, commissioned and in production within 48 hours. He said the machine had meant advantages in finish quality and improvements in productivity.

Prowood supplies clear softwoods, European redwood and whitewood, Siberian larch, Thermowood and temperate and tropical hardwoods. It rebranded in 2011, having formerly been known as Oregon-Canadian Europe Ltd.
