Swedish forestry group Södra saw its profits soar in 2003 to SKr1.5bn – its third-best results ever.

The group said the good performance was mainly due to larger volumes, increased production, forward contracts and fixed price agreements.

Profits were up from SKr771m in 2002, while sales grew from SKr12bn to SKr13.1bn.

Anders Wahrolén, president and chief executive officer of Södra, said: “The sawmills reported a positive income trend because the volumes were at a record level and because sales initiatives aimed at builders merchants were successful.”

He said Södra Skog handled its largest ever volume of wood.
