Estonia’s largest sawmill, Imavere, recorded a turnover of EKr487m (E31.12m) during the first half of 2002, a 29% increase on the same period last year.

The mill processed 174,460m3 of sawn timber, a growth of 13,890m3 on 2001. Profits are not being released but they are expected to be up due to the production increase and a 5% rise in timber prices during the six months.

AS Paikuse, Estonia’s second-largest sawmill had a turnover of EKr235.4m (E15.04m) in the first half, up 30%. Output grew by about 20% to 93,900m3, with exports accounting for 72% of turnover.

Profits at the AS Sylvester forestry group increased by 60% to EKr70.2m from sales of EKr901.4m. Its launch of the Launkalne sawmill in Latvia is reportedly going well with work ahead of schedule.

The Somerpalu sawmill owned by AS Toftan produced more than 50,000m3 of timber from January to June, recording a turnover of EKr127.5m, a year-on-year growth of 8%.
