The number of new private housing planning applications has stabilised at an estimated 459 for July, according to research company Glenigan.

The monthly total compares with 513 in June, 447 in May, 475 in April and 542 in March.

But the average January-July figure of 494 compares with 1,291 two years ago and 902 last year.

“The latest data demonstrates that housebuilders remain focused on building out existing schemes and still have a large pool of sites with planning approval on which to draw as the market gradually improves,” said Allan Wilén, Glenigan’s economic director.

“Whilst some housebuilders are now looking to add to their landbanks, the latest data suggests that there will be no rush to bring forward acquired sites for development.”
