The princess was shown full-scale demonstration houses in the park, including a timber frame unit and one currently being constructed with structural insulated panels.
Princess Anne was invited to visit BRE after an article appeared in the Daily Telegraph in which she questioned why there were so few women in science, engineering and technology.
BRE Certification Ltd managing director Carol Atkinson told the princess about BRE’s continuous efforts to encourage more scientists, and in particular women, into the industry.
Princess Anne also visited the BRE’s 10MW Burn Hall and watched a fire test, demonstrating the type of work which helps to save lives, property and protect businesses.
