Premier Forest Products has opened a £2m warehouse and office in Birmingham.

Nigel Williams, one of the three founding directors of the independent company, said: “While the rest of the timber trade doesn’t seem to be investing, we seem to be making asset purchases. This investment in Birmingham is the biggest we have ever done and we have ambitious expansion plans for the next 10 years.”

The 30,000ft2 warehouse will store and distribute “every panel product under the sun” according to Mr Williams. An additional warehouse is set to open later this financial year.

The Birmingham site will be headed up by newly appointed director Chris Wild who will spearhead Premier’s operations in the north of the UK.

The company plans to increase market penetration in the UK and intends to be conducting 50% of its trading in the Midlands and the north in the next four years. It has an overall target turnover of £80m by 2010.
