The company says its CLTherm, a pre-insulated and prefabricated CLT panel, will be used for the first time in the UK in a private home in Aberdeenshire and would reduce build programme time for CLT projects.

Craig Liddell, Hybrid’s sales director and who co-founded CLT specialist KLH UK, said CLTherm panels would be processed in the UK in collaboration with partner Scotframe Timber Engineering, where panels receive a membrane and a layer of injected Val-U-Therm polyurethane insulation. The CLT panels are first imported from Europe.

"I’ve been asked many times about supplying CLT with insulation, but given that the only options available would have been at the point of manufacture, the logistics and finances just didn’t stack up – far less the increase in the number of vehicle journeys required from Europe and, therefore, CO2 emissions," said Mr Liddell.

Hybrid’s first project using CLTherm will feature 234m2 of CLTherm wall and roof panels, as well as closed panel timber frame wall panels and NorDan windows and doors. Walls will have a U-value of 0.15W/m2K and the roof 0.12W/m2K.
