US forest products company Potlach Corporation doubled its net profits from continuing operations to US$33m during 2005.

The company’s sales also grew to US$1.5bn from US$1.4bn in 2004.

Potlach’s wood products division recorded an operating profit of US$300,000 for the fourth quarter of 2005, compared to US$6.4m a year previously.

The company said the division’s lower earnings were mainly due to higher log costs, while lower lumber prices combined with higher energy and freight costs also affected the result.
