West Yorkshire-based timber merchant CR Taylor Timber Ltd has called for a “positive approach” and “a new burst of entrepreneurship”, to overcome pessimism shrouding the housebuilding market.

Sales director Charles Taylor was recently interviewed by Sky News on how the slowdown is affecting housebuilders, and used his opportunity to address the nation to call for a positive outlook on the situation.

During his interview, Mr Taylor enthused that “we don’t all get dragged down by negative talk that seems to fill the column inches and air time”, and that “firms operating in and around [the housebuilding industry] must take heart and learn to be innovative in their approach”.

“A positive approach and response is vital if firms are struggling or choose to rationalise and we must match that with a new burst of entrepreneurship,” said Mr Taylor.

“Times such as these offer opportunities and sow the seeds for future prosperity. That has always been the case.”

Mr Taylor added that despite the need to recently make “regrettable redundancies”, CR Taylor had managed to increase its customer base “by keeping our ears to the ground and being savvy as to how our competitions are faring”.
