The 28,000m3 shipment, which includes Chinese, Indonesian and Malaysian plywood, coincides with a new contract agreed between the Port of Tilbury and Contipac which extends their commitment to the UK-Far Eastern, Chinese, Malaysian/Indonesian trade route.

Singapore-based shipping line Contipac operates from the Far East to Tilbury on a six weekly basis.

“We are delighted to once again extend our relationship with the port, particularly in light of the increased volume of traffic from the Far East,” said Mike McMahon, Contipac managing director.

And Debbie Bartlett, senior asset manager for the Port of Tilbury, said the port is confident that volumes into the UK could increase significantly in the next five years with the Olympic and Thames Gateway projects.
