Pontrilas Timber has invested £400,000 in a new kiln at its Herefordshire site to meet growing demand for KD carcassing.

The Kiln Services unit will dry 47mm graded ease edge material and its 15,000m³ annual capacity takes the company’s total kilning output to between 65,000-70,000m³ a year.

It uses Kiln Services’ heat recovery system, which cuts fuel consumption by 25% compared to conventional technology. This also features on an identical new kiln installed by Pontrilas a year ago and is now being retrofitted to five of the company’s older units.

Over the summer, Pontrilas also concreted an area of 3,300m² to boost its log yard holding capacity.
