Finnish forest machine manufacturer Ponsse Oyj has awarded a scholarship to forestry student Vadim Goltsev to carry out research into increasing wood-based energy production.

The research will investigate methods for estimating the economic and technical availability of wood for energy production, focusing on the “potential scale of wood-based fuel production” in Russia, as well as looking at the Russian business environment and the opportunities for investment and to increase raw material supply.

Mr Goltsev graduated from the European Forestry programme at the University of Joensuu, Finland and is currently enrolled on a postgraduate course with the faculty of forestry.

The research will also form part of Mr Foltsev’s dissertation for his postgraduate studies.
