Plum Creek Timber Company achieved first quarter earnings of US$56m, or US$0.30 per diluted share. At the time Rick Holley predicted the second quarter would see “strong housing starts, good repair and remodel demand, and the potential for a recovery in pulp and paper markets”.

“Many mills are beginning to experience strengthening demand for their products, translating into improved demand for timber,” he said. “We also anticipate modest improvements in sawlog pricing as the economy strengthens and mills increase their production in response to improving demand.”

Plum Creek operates 7.8 million acres of timberlands across the US and 10 wood product manufacturing facilities in the Northwest. It merged with Georgia Pacific subsidiary The Timber Company last year.
