Earnings were US$69m, compared with US$67 a year before on revenues of US$379, down from US$391. Analysts had expected per share earnings of US34 cents, but Plum Creek returned US39 cents, up from US36 cents for the same period a year ago.

A spokesman said: “A growing contribution from our real estate segment offset softer results from our timber resource and manufacturing segments as lumber and panel products weakened.”
