Plum Creek Timber Company is to buy 48,500 acres of timberland in Maine for an undisclosed sum.
The purchase, in the Moosehead Lake and Sebec regions, follows an acquisition of 905,000 acres in the state six years ago.
The company is also putting together a resource plan for 40% of its land in Maine, which is expected to designate 95% of the area as working forest.
