Planning applications are now being submitted to Hull City Council for the transformation of Alexandra Dock, Hull into a major wind turbine manufacturing plant.

One major timber products firm Grange Fencing has already vacated part of the site in advance, citing the assignment of the site to Siemens, levying of backdated ports rates and increased rents as its reason to move to another site two miles away.

The joint applications by Siemens and Associated British Ports for the proposed Green Port Hull facility include the demolition of existing buildings at Alexandra Dock and the development of a factory, office and amenity facilities and a helicopter landing site, as well as areas for the storage, handling, assembly, and testing of wind turbine components.

ABP is also making a number of separate applications, which include marine and listed building consents, and an application for the removal and variation of conditions attached to the consent granted by the Associated British Ports (Hull) Harbour Revision Order 2006 relating to land to be reclaimed to the south west of Alexandra Dock.

This is to enable the new quay to be used for the handling of wind turbines and associated traffic.

Matt Jukes, ABP Ports Director Hull & Goole, said the applications would see the complete transformation of Alexandra Dock.
