Bakewell-based Pinelog Ltd met the design brief to replace an 80-year-old wooden structure at Dalegarth Station with a building sympathetic to its spectacular lakeland setting.

The project at Dalegarth, situated at the end of the seven-mile Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, favoured a prefabricated timber building due to its remote location.

Materials used in the building, comprising a ticket office, cafe, gift shop, toilets and multi-purpose space, included glulam trusses and Siberian larch for cladding.

The design was chosen to evoke memories of the railway line’s mining and Victorian tourism heritage.

Jim Walker, chief executive of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, said: “The fact that Pinelog was able to provide a complete design and build solution was a tremendous benefit for us.”
