Crendon Timber Engineering designed and fabricated 1,400 trusses for a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospital project in Coventry which featured unusually demanding design considerations.

The Aylesbury-based company, a Trussed Rafter Association member, completed the roofscape, plant room platforms and lightwells of Coventry Primary Care Tust’s new mental health unit at Walsgrave Hospital. Half of the trusses needed spans in excess of 12m.

A batch of 57 attic trusses were produced to offer sufficient space and load carrying capacity to accommodate three 2.5 tonne air handling units.

Crendon also installed walkways within the roof voids, plus an anti-fall system on the roof for maintenance access to the rooflights.
