company’s aim is to bring a considerable volume of freight onto the railways in the medium term, thereby significantly reducing the volume of trucks from and to the Lauterbach plant. It is anticipated that the line will be in use in mid-2021.

As well as benefiting the environment and the local population by taking trucks off the road, the railway line will ensure the sustainable supply of raw materials to the mill.

Around 1 million m3 of logs per year are to be cut at the Lauterbach location in future and processed into a wide range of products (sawn timber, pallet blocks, pellets and green electricity).

“Transport by rail has proven to be particularly advantageous for distances over 150 km,” said Gernot Hormess, managing director of Pfeifer Holz Lauterbach GmbH. “The aggravated situation in road traffic and in the freight industry also makes this alternative attractive for us.”
