Scotland’s first commercial wood pellet manufacturer Arbuthnott Wood Pellets (AWP) Ltd is to host an open day for commercial and domestic property developers to see the benefits of wood as a fuel.

The event, to be held at the company’s Kincardineshire facility on August 7, will allow attendees to see the £1m-worth of machinery which is capable of producing two tonnes of pellets an hour, as well as a working wood pellet boiler, and hear from Forestry Commission Scotland and heating systems supplier Grampian Heat and Power on the latest technologies available in the sector.

AWP said the rising cost of oil and gas means it is important for property developers to look at alternative sources of energy.

“We are fortunate in Scotland that we have an abundance of natural, sustainable resources – our woodlands,” said owner Keith Arbuthnott.

“We are opening up our doors today to allow those who are at the forefront of developing new properties or upgrading old ones to learn more about the practicalities and benefits of wood fuel.”

AWP’s pellets are being marketed under the name Stovies and are produced from roundwood supplied by DWP Harvesting and conifer from the 200-acre Arbuthnott Estate.
