The success of one of the world’s largest forest certification schemes has been toasted aboard one of London’s classic wooden sailing vessels.

Representatives from timber companies and other stakeholders in the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) took part in a reception on the SB Lady Daphne in St Katherine Dock to reflect on the success of the PEFC brand.

Earlier, at PEFC UK’s AGM, members heard how the organisation had reached the milestone of 1,000 chain of custody certificates in the UK – 20% of PEFC’s global total – in February, while 800 licences had been granted for use of the PEFC logo.

Chairman Peter Latham told members that PEFC now endorsed 28 national forest certification schemes globally, accounting for 220 million ha. Global chain of custody certificates now stand at nearly 5,000, while more than 30,000 logo licences have been issued.
