The Finnish Forest Certification System (FFCS) is being reviewed in light of new scientific knowledge and practical experience.

The revision is a regular review which all national certification programmes endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) have to undergo every five years.

All amendments made to the PEFC Council’s technical documents since FFCS’s initial endorsement in 2000 will have to be incorporated into the standard.

PEFC secretary general Ben Gunneberg

Independent consultant FORM International will make an assessment of FFCS, while the public and PEFC General Assembly are also to make comments. The assembly will make a final decision on whether or not to re-endorse the scheme.

PEFC secretary general Ben Gunneberg said: “I invite all interested parties to review the existing FFCS scheme on our website at www.pefc.org and send any comments directly to FORM International by January 3, 2005.”
