Fifteen NGOs from 13 countries met in France recently to exchange views on forest certification – and about PEFC in particular.

The two-day symposium was organised by France Nature Environment – an umbrella organisation representing more than 3,000 French NGOs – together with PEFC France and the PEFC council.

PEFC and NGO representatives gave presentations on their involvement in PEFC, and visits were made to PEFC-certified state and private forests near Orléans.

The NGOs also met privately to explore issues of mutual interest and options for the future.

Preliminary discussions at the end of the symposium revealed strong interest in establishing an informal global NGO network for those participating or wishing to participate in PEFC national schemes and the work of the PEFC council internationally.
