A PEFC-certified beer has won the “Anglo-American origin hoppy beer” category in the Sapore beer festival in Rimini, Italy.

The beer, from the Foglie d’Erba micro brewery in north-eastern Italy, is flavoured with pine needles, cones, and resin, all collected from PEFC-certified forests.

When it was awarded PEFC certified in 2009 it was the first beer in the world to receive forest certification.

Organised by the Italian Union of Beer Producers, the festival featured 386 beers from 82 breweries.
