An increasingly polarised picture is emerging in the European parquet industry, industry executives have heard at a Brussels meeting.

The European Federation of the Parquet Industry’s April board meeting, which included updates from member country representatives, heard that 2012 will be a challenging year for parquet producers with variations at country level.

“It is generally an increasingly polarised picture that emerges, with some central European and Nordic countries performing predominantly well versus a more disquieting current that has seemingly settled under southern skies,” FEP said.

Austria, Germany, Finland and Norway reported positive markets, while Italy, the Netherlands and Spain have recorded a downward trend.

“The situation in Spain is really difficult,” FEP said.
