Sonae UK has signed an exclusive agreement with Palmer Timber for the supply of its Mezzdek flooring products.

The agreement follows Palmer’s major role in securing a dramatic increase in Mezzdek business.

Sonae UK sales and marketing director David Chapman said Sonae had previouly sold Mezzdek, a 38mm chipboard product designed for the mezzanine flooring market, through about 15 different distributors, including Palmer.

But a 200% growth in Mezzdek business over the past 12 months, which Mr Chapman said was mostly attributable to Palmer, had convinced Sonae to deal exclusively with Palmer.

“We have grown exponentially over the last 12 months, which has been driven through Palmer’s experience in the mezzanine market. It has allowed us to capture the market we desired.”

Mr Chapman described the mezzanine flooring market as a growing sector, with the vast majority of products going into warehousing.

Palmer’s managing director Tim Myatt described the relationship between the two companies as a great fit, with Palmer also able to offer anti-slip coatings and fire resistant foils for Mezzdek.

“With land space at a premium, moving upwards with mezzanine floors is going to be more and more commercially viable,” he said.
