Some 743 people gathered to hear former Republican Party vice-president nominee Sarah Palin speak at the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) annual convention in Vancouver.

The attendance represented a 15% increase compared to the 2009 event in Boston, while 65 companies exhibited their products.

“This year’s annual convention exceeded all expectations and proved once again to be the premier networking and educational conference of the hardwood industry,” NHLA said.

As well as Sarah Palin as the keynote speaker, the event featured educational seminars, press conferences, and networking opportunities. Dave Redmond of Highland Hardwood Sales was elected new NHLA president.

Next year’s convention will be held in Nashville on September 21-24.

The NHLA represents more than 1,200 companies and individuals that produce, use and sell North American hardwood lumber or provide equipment or services to the hardwood industry.
