Palgrave Brown has re-roofed a 100-year-old office block in Coventry as part of the building’s conversion into luxury apartments.

National housebuilder George Wimpey asked Palgrave Brown for a truss design which worked in harmony with the building’s age and could house three flats within the roof.

Gary Black, sales and design manager at Palgrave Brown’s Avonmouth branch, said: “After considering a range of engineering solutions to create the rooms in the roof we specified attic trusses as these allowed the upper floor of the building to be totally contained within the truss.”

The attic trusses have spans of 14.62m between walls, with a cap and base technique used.

Wimpey is converting the block into 15 one- and two-bedroom flats.
