Environmental sourcing and a complex design were two of the requirements when engineered timber specialist Palgrave Brown (UK) Ltd was asked to supply the flooring system for the Eden Project’s new £15m education centre.

Palgrave Brown’s Bodmin branch designed and manufactured individual Posi-joists for the building, named The Core, featuring timber with Forest Stewardship Council and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes chain of custody certification.

The Core’s circular shape meant Posi-joists had to be made individually for each section of the construction, with added options of trimable ends so joists could be cut to size on site.

Posi-joists designed and manufactured by Palgrave Brown ranged in length from 600mm to 4.8m.
