Extra long I-beams from Palgrave Brown were used to construct a helicopter landing pad and solar burn tower used in some of the stunt scenes in the new film Sahara starring Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz.

James Chanceong, director of John Mansfield Timber Supplies which is based at Pinewood and Shepperton Studios, said the client wanted a cantilever system and needed a platform capable of supporting a 10ft overhang, giving the impression it was free standing.

Palgrave Brown designed and supplied 80 extra-long joists, more commonly used for the TJI Silent Floor System. The joists are “non residential” series and have a depth of 406mm as opposed to “residential” joists which have a general depth of 241mm or 302mm.
