West Yorkshire-based Pace Timber Systems (Northern) Ltd has taken on additional premises to cope with unprecedented growth.

The company has moved into an additional 8,000ft2 manufacturing and office facility next to its existing 15,000ft2 site. It said the extra space will support growth in turnover which, by the end of this year, will have more than doubled in the past two years.

In 2002 the company produced 188 units; in 2003 it rose to 376 and the forecast for this year is 588.

General manager Jonathan McMullon said: “The growth we have enjoyed since becoming part of the Pace Group some 16 months ago has been staggering.

“What’s more, in acquiring the additional manufacturing and office space, we now have the physical capacity to capitalise on growth opportunities that we are being presented with across all of the major construction industry sectors.”

The additional space will be mainly dedicated to the production of complete floor cassettes, utilising both engineered and traditional joists. The move has also freed up space for Pace Northern to create additional timber frame panel production cells.

Mr McMullon said that since the Pace acquisition, the company’s workforce has also doubled to incorporate a bigger site operations team, a new production manager and a team dedicated to the design process.

Pace Northern has developed strategic partnerships with housebuilders and housing associations in recent months and is in the process of supplying a multi-million pound timber frame development for some 75 exclusive residential properties for one of the Top 10 housebuilders.
