OT Africa Line’s (OTAL) decision to move its southern UK port operations from Thamesport to Felixstowe could spell good news for the timber industry.

The company’s marketing manager, Paul Page, said Felixstowe, which is considerably larger than Thamesport, is well served by good, consistent haulage contractors.

He added: ‘The port also handles much more timber per year than Thamesport so that experience will translate.

‘Felixstowe is the UK’s leading container port and consequently has an excellent infrastructure. It has exceptional road links including the A12 and A14 dual carriageways. Access to the Midlands and north-west via the A14 is particularly good.’

Felixstowe also has an excellent rail service.

OTAL’s fortnightly ro-ro/container calls in Teesport are unaffected by the switch.
