Timber roof cassettes manufactured by Wood Newton Ltd will shortly be lifted into place at the London 2012 Olympics Velodrome.

The cassettes will be fitted into the steel cable net roof already in place at the venue. The roof is designed like a giant tennis racket, with the cassettes fitting into the gaps.

External timber cladding will be fitted in Late May/early June, while the timber track will be one of the last elements to fitted in the autumn.

The 6,000-seat venue is due to be completed in 2011.

Wood Newton, a project management company specialising in fit-outs and external claddin/façade systems, has worked on other prestigious projects, including at the National Gallery and the National Tennis Centre.
