The timber industry’s Olympics campaign Wood for Gold has been told there are still “many” procurement contracts to be tendered for.
Officials from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) met Wood for Gold representatives Andrew Abbott (TRADA) and Rachel Butler (Timber Trade Federation) to discuss timber certification, sharing of expertise, the benefits of using wood and the scope of timber use for the various Games sites.
“Over the next three years LOCOG will be specifying all manner of products from temporary buildings to furniture and signage,” said Mr Abbott. “Many of these products could potentially be made using timber and wood products. It is important that these are correctly specified and responsibly sourced.”
Wood for Gold is assisting LOCOG with regard to timber certification and has pledged to help in all aspects of timber procurement and supply.
LOCOG officials at the Canary Wharf meeting included Richard Mould, head of procurement, and David Stubbs, head of sustainability.
