Rix Baltic Lines has announced that it is having to introduce a fuel surcharge because of rising oil prices.

The company added the surcharge of £2 per cubic metre or metric tonne of cargo yesterday. It said that pressures put on the oil market by the Iraqi crisis and instability in the wider global economy had given it no choice.

“These events are out of the control of Rix Baltic Lines,” said an official statement from the company. It added that it would keep customers informed of developments on the surcharge.
