One of the largest buying groups for the building trade in France, CAB 56, has ordered a unique storage solution from OHRA Regalanlagen GmbH.
The new €7m warehouse will be the first automated complex of its type in the construction materials trade in France.
Once completed (in the first half of 2012), the 5,000m² warehouse in the municipality Plescop, Brittany will feature 10,000 storage spaces for long goods and palletised goods.
OHRA developed the warehouse and conveyor concepts and will deliver the racking systems, three automated high bay stacker cranes, as well as the entire software and hardware for the warehouse management.
Rising numbers of CAB 56 co-operative members and increasing demand on the total distribution performance, as well as a need for more warehouse storage space, especially for laminates and chipboard, prompted CAB 56 to expand the existing distribution warehouse.
An interface between the warehouse management software to the in-house ERP-system further improves performance and allows better monitoring of the entire order management process.
The first warehouse area stores wood products, such as laminates, MDF and chipboard in a three-lane storage zone featuring cantilever racking up to 14.5m high. Each run is fitted with up to 35 arm levels, accessed by a fully automated Köttgen stacker crane.
The crane handles panels of up to 5.1m in length and 2.07m wide.
The second zone features other building materials, including plasterboard, timber rafters and metal profiles.
OHRA is using the Innolog warehouse management system Motis, which communicates with the stacker cranes and mobile devices on the fork lift trucks via a wireless local area network.
CAB 56 features about 300 companies in the roofing, interior decoration, carpentry, joinery workshop and woodworking construction trades.
