Dr Peter Bonfield, construction projects leader with the ODA, has said that this target is part of a commitment to “raising standards across industry in sustainable design and construction”, adding that some industries are already preparing to meet the authority’s sustainability requirements.
The announcement of the 100% target, which has come two months after the ODA revealed it planned to maximise the use of sustainable timber, has been welcomed by the Wood for Gold campaign, which has said that the ODA “should be applauded” for its environmental procurement policies.
“Wood for Gold fully supports the ODA’s ambitious plans for the use of sustainable, certified wood,” said Richard Lambert, a member of the Wood for Gold steering committee.
“It has never been attempted or achieved before and the ODA should be applauded for having the courage to set such targets as part of its environmental procurement policy.”
Mr Lambert also reiterated the Wood for Gold campaign’s commitment to working with the ODA to make the 2012 Olympic Games “an exemplar to the UK construction industry and the rest of the world”.
