Mr Barrett initially worked for Parker International, and then joined the pallet and fencing timber importing trade as an employee of Scandland. He subsequently set up his own timber importing agency, DHV Timber, based in the Manchester area.
Mr Barrett was a very popular and respected figure in the trade and was known as a dedicated and fervent supporter of Manchester United.
He was recently diagnosed with cancer.
