Edward Hickman, managing director of the Pontrilas Group of companies, has died at the age of 39.

Edward Hickman joined the family firm 18 years ago after completing a degree at Exeter University and worked in every area of the business before taking the role of managing director. The company was founded in 1947 and he was the sixth generation to take the helm.

Under his leadership, Pontrilas’s business expanded and is now a strong player in the timber and packaging industries. It has a long-serving, experienced and active management team who will continue to lead the company forward in the same direction that Edward had led them in for the last 10 years under the mantle of Jeremy, his father. Edward Hickman had a great passion for timber, and the timber industry, and was always happy to advise customers.

He was charming and level-headed and known for his sociable nature and his generosity towards his staff and customers. Pontrilas staff say his death will leave a large void at the company.

Edward Hickman is survived by his wife Rosanna and two daughters, Isabella and Evie.

Pontrilas staff would like to thank all those who have kindly conveyed their condolences.
